India’s most engaging platform, ScoopWhoop Media has released a new documentary as a part of its Chase series. The film explores the concept of love and companionship in a world fuelled by technology. Directed by Samdish Bhatia, the film, “Tinder, Hook-ups: Has Technology Killed Love?” is their take on modern-day relationships and the role of technology.
A decade ago, finding a hook-up or even a partner through an app was unheard of. However for the Indian millennial, the concept of ‘swiping right’, based solely on a virtual profile, is fast becoming the norm. One could call it the birth of India’s hook-up culture or the death of monogamy, but the fact is that these apps have completely transformed the way this generation deals with relationships and sex.
Speaking about the concept of the documentary, Sriparna Tikekar, Chief Content Officer at ScoopWhoop Media said, “In today’s fast paced world, people and relationships are as fickle as they can come. With the concept of dating apps being the new rage, as a part of Chase, we wanted to explore the stigma that is attached, and highlight the untold stories of our progressive new generation.”
Speaking about the “paradox of choice”, as he calls it, Samdish Bhatia, said, “While we were researching user patterns on dating apps, we realised that the youth is actually moving towards greater isolation and loneliness even though these apps offer more options. Rather than providing more choices, these options create confusion and prevent the users from emotionally investing in their dates. Technology might be enabling the process to explore and help build more connections, but at the same time, it is also fuelling the ambiguity, a hope that someone better is out there. The film tries to document these experiences and the paradox of greater choice. .”
